Errata, Redistribution, and Live Stream!
almost 4 years ago – Sun, Jun 21, 2020 at 08:10:30 PM

Good Evening all you Wonderful Internet People.

and Happy Father's Day to you all you Wonderful Internet Dads.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who's messaged us with information about any errata found in the Grimoire. As we said in our last update, we're intentionally holding back the Grimoire for printing in case any errors were found. And found some you have! I’d also like you to know that we brought on a few outside editors to do some double checks on the grimoire and we're actively working to resolve the issues found thus far. We will be redistributing the Grimoire PDF's to all of you just before we submit the files for prepress. We will have more info on that soon, so stay tuned.

Thanks again to everyone for your support and for sticking with us through all of this. We’re a small team, but this July 20th marks the 5th anniversary of Gemhammer and Sons. Our continued presence and success is all thanks to folks such as yourselves, and we couldn’t be more grateful to all of you. For more information on the future of Gemhammer and Sons and our next steps be sure to check out our live stream this Wednesday.

As previously announced we’ll be reading through select sections of the grimoire and answering any questions you might have. We’re also doing a give away for our viewers so check us out if you’re interested in winning some Gemhammer Swag. Some of our convention exclusive Rainbow Potion Dice may even be on the table. The live stream will be recorded and made available for anyone who can’t make it. So if you can’t make it to the stream and have any questions or comments you’d like us to cover, please send them to us asap so we can make sure to cover it.

Thanks again everyone! We hope to see you on Wednesday, enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Gemhammer Grimoire PDF Release
almost 4 years ago – Wed, Jun 17, 2020 at 09:26:14 PM

Good Evening Wonderful Internet People.

Earlier this afternoon we released the PDF version of the Gemhammer Grimoire to everyone who ordered it! We hope you enjoy the book as much has we enjoyed writing it. The PDFs for the spell cards will be out in the next week or so. We ran into a technical issue thats delayed them slightly, but we didnt want to delay the book any further so the release will be staggered a bit.

With bugs and other technical issues in mind, we're holding off for a week or so before we restart the printing process. We just want to ensure there's nothing out of place before we set everything to print. If any issues with the Grimoire are found during final checks, we will be sure to notify you here and redistribute the PDF to all fo you. We expect the printed copies of the Grimoire and Spell Cards to be in the US and distribution to begin by the end of the summer. We know this is much later than we originally planned, but with everything thats gone in the world lately I'm honestly pleased that we're getting things out this soon. Also, we'll be closing the Backer-kit preorder shop once we release the books for print. We'll be sure to update all of you before that happens. The other rewards such as the leather bags and Level Up Lapis Dice are on hand and waiting for distribution. We will be sure to have high quality photos to share of those soon.

On Wednesday June 24th at 8:00 pm, Joe and I will be doing a read through of the Grimoire on our twitch stream. We'd considered doing it on Friday, but we wanted to give you all a chance to read through the Grimoire yourselves before we break it all down for you. We'll be taking questions from all of you and  discussing the features of the book, our plans for follow up content, and other future plans. We hope you can make it. https://www.twitch.tv/gemhammer

As always if any of you have any questions please let us know. Thanks again for all your support, and for brearing with us in what's been a difficult year so far. We'll be in touch very soon and we hope to see you all on stream!

Update 48! Origins Online canceled, PDF release date
almost 4 years ago – Sat, Jun 13, 2020 at 02:10:32 AM

Hello, Wonderful Internet People!

First, we have to pass along the announcement that Origins Online has been canceled. The decision and the reasoning behind that decision has been a bit contentious, but we are not going to address that here. We are, of course, a little disappointed that we won't be able to show off all our More, Better Game Stuff to a new audience, but that decision is out of our hands.

However, we made a commitment to release the Grimoire PDFs along with the opening of Origins on June 17th. We will be keeping that commitment. Yes, those of you who have ordered the Grimoire PDF will be getting it this Wednesday! We are also currently working on fixing the streaming issues from our Q&A Stream so that we can do a read-through of the Grimoire for all backers. Look forward to another update for that schedule. We also fully expect to have the PDFs of the Spell Cards done in the next week or so, but we wanted to get the Grimoire PDF in your digital hands as soon as digitally possible.

Obviously, many of you are excited to have the physical Grimoire in your physical hands. Of course, our supply lines have been affected by the global pandemic. After talking to our producers and distributors, we are fairly confident that the books and cards (and other backer rewards) will be in your hands in by the end of summer, at the latest. We also have the Lapis dice in, and were intending to release some professional-quality pictures. However, with the lock-down, it's been a little difficult but we continue to explore those options.

Things have been tough this year, for many people far more than the team at Gemhammer. We appreciate your patience in all of this. And, of course, any rumors that any of the fates currently befalling our world is a direct result of trying to reproduce Gurin Gemhammer's Grimoire in full for commercial purposes is blatantly false.

Quick Update and Twitch Q&A
almost 4 years ago – Sat, May 09, 2020 at 10:22:44 PM

Good afternoon, Wonderful Internet People!

First of all, we want to thank you all for for your support during these difficult times. We certainly never expected to live in a world where our supply chains are pushed to the brink and our trade shows and conventions being delayed or cancelled. Your support is certainly helping us through this and we can't thank you all enough.

On the note of Conventions and Trade Shows: Gemhammer will be participating in the Origins Online show on June 19-21, the original date of the Origins Game Fair. A big, exciting part of that is that we fully expect PDF Versions of the Grimoire to be available during Origins Online. That's right, if you are getting a PDF version of the Grimoire, that should be in your inbox by June 19th!

We are very excited to get this product in your hands as soon as possible. With new options for Familiars, a new NPC class for scroll-crafters, brand new stat blocks to add to your game, as well as the over-100 new spells, the over-100 new Magic Items, and new subclass options for every spellcasting class, we are very, very excited to bring all this More, Better Game Stuff into your games.

We also wanted to answer some questions that came up during the Twitch stream for those of you who were unable to watch with us. So, here are a few of the Q's we A'd during that Live Stream.

Q: Will the Gemhammer products (Deck of Wonder, Deck of All the Things, etc.) be included as magic items in the Grimoire?

A: Short answer, no. The Gemhammer physical decks were created with the idea that a deck of cards is a fundamentally better way to deal with variant spell effects and the like. With those products, we want to get you out of the tables in your books and back at the tables with your friends. Putting those items into a book would be antithetical to that ideal, so we made the decision to make the magic items in the Grimoire the best possible magic items for a rule reference book.

Q: Will there be an expansion for the Deck of Plunder that includes all of the magic items in the Grimoire?

A: This was a stretch goal for this Kickstarter, so we are confident we could do this product and that it would be up to our standards. If this is something you want to see as a physical deck, please let us know. If this is a product that enough of you want, we'll make it for you.

Q: Are there any plans to make system-neutral products?

A: Pulling the curtain back a bit, the reason we use the systems we use (3.5, 4e, 5e, PF1, PF2) is because those systems have licenses that make it easy for us to design products. It is much harder to make rules references that work in even a large number of systems, to say nothing about being system-neutral. Even a simple question like "How much is 10 HP?" has answers that vary from "Not a problem, even at 1st level" to "You have just killed my most powerful warrior" in different systems.

That said, many of our products are already system-neutral. As long as you are in the sword-and-sorcery genre, then the Decks of Many More and Even More things, both Decks of Wonder, the Deck of Blunder, Plunder, and Sunders will work perfectly fine with any RPG system. We are committed to, whenever possible, making our products as useful to as many players as possible. So expect our products to continue to flirt with system-neutrality, while being optimized for the most popular systems out there.

Q: How are you guys today?

A: In equal parts extremely busy and with nothing to do, as April was the longest month in recorded history that also passed by over the course of a long weekend. We are certainly doing better than many, many people. So if you have an essential worker in your life, a postal worker or a grocer for instance, reach out and make sure they're doing okay, will you?

Whoa, that was a long update! Again, thank you all for your support right now. We literally wouldn't be doing this without you, and we can't thank you enough. Stay safe out there, stay healthy, and hopefully we'll be able to get around the table with our friends before too long.

Twitch Stream and a Further Delay.
about 4 years ago – Mon, Apr 13, 2020 at 12:22:52 AM

Thank you to all the wonderful internet people who joined Joe and I last night for our first live stream. As we said, we are not professional streamers, and there were a number of oddities with the new Streamlabs for Mac we had to overcome. Unfortunately one of those issues was that our stream only recorded 3 minutes of the "Starting Soon" Screen and nothing else. We're working to fix the issues we experience last night and will do another stream soon to communicate with all of you. In terms of the questions asked and answered last night, we will be sure to address them in a future update.

We also wanted to let you all know that despite our best efforts, there will be a further delay in the grimoire. We've been told by our printer that we will experience delays beyond our normal turnaround times. Additionally, origins has been delayed till October, which means we are no longer preparing for that show. Since we have some more time on our hands, we're taking this opportunity to make further adjustments to the grimoire, and include a few more additions that originally hit the cutting room floor. We still hope to have a summer release, but we have no way of knowing exactly how things will land givin the way things are going right now. We'll keep you all updated as information becomes available. In terms of PDF's, we'll have those available for all of you just as soon as they're ready to go out.

Some good news, the Lapis Dice are in! They look great, and we will be taking some high quality photos for you folks, just as soon as we get a chance.

Thank you for your patience as we try to navigate this new landscape. I'd also like to set up another stream soon where I can preview some chapters of the grimoire with you. More information on that soon. If you have nay questions about the campaign or our plans please feel free to reach out. Thanks!

-Conor
